Looking forward to going to Milan this week, I think back to the church of Mater Misericordiae that was built on a project by Angelo Mangiarotti and Bruno Morassutti and engineer Aldo Favini. It is one of the most important examples of modern ecclesial architecture in the Ambrosian diocese, and in absolute the one that best interprets the spirit of radical renewal of the period. The church is also called "Church of Glass" due to the perimeter walls made of translucent glass. The Archbishop Cardinal Montini attributed to her the symbolic meaning of representation of the divine light, clarifying its overly modern appearance with no reference to the tradition. It was designed for a serial replicability in other Milanese neighborhoods invested by the economic boom of those years, which then didn’t happen because of its not very durable materials and the quite unpleasant indoor climate. However, innovative materials have been used for the construction of the church that marked a break with the tradition of the twentieth century. There is the reinforced concrete for four supporting columns and the two cross beams, the only parts casted in place, the iron and the glass for the walls and the X-shaped prefabricated elements for the roof. 🤩 📐 ⛪️ #Milano #ChiesaMaterMisericordiae #Branzate

La Casa del Fascio situada en Plaza de la Libertad 1 de Lissone fue construida entre 1938 y 1939 con proyecto redactado por Giuseppe Terragni a partir de un concurso convocado por el Partido Fascista para la reorganización y creación de la plaza situada en el centro de la ciudad (antes llamada de Victorio Manuel III), concurso al que se presentó junto con Antonio Carminati.⠀ ⠀ La Casa del Fascio se sitúa en el lado este de la plaza. El edificio está formado por dos volúmenes claramente diferentes en recíproca relación: hacia el sur un cuerpo horizontal, "transparente", de dos plantas de alto (8 m) y 34 m de longitud, y hacia el norte una torre de piedra de planta rectangular de 4,15m x 7,80 m y 18 m de altura, unida al cuerpo bajo mediante un juego de pasarelas.⠀ ⠀ El volumen horizontal, destinado a las funciones cotidianas, se apoya sobre una sutil plataforma de piedra y en la primera planta se proyecta en voladizo hacia la plaza. Mientras que en el lado este se coloca, en doble altura, el cine-teatro-auditorio.
